Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title: onemap_prod.SDEADMIN.dnccon_poly
Abstract:
The NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis acquired the voting districts shapefiles for the state of North Carolina from the General Assembly/Information Systems Division. These data represent the boundaries of 2001 Congressional districts in North Carolina (zero deviation). Block assignments were based on the plan ratified by the General Assembly in 2001 and effective for the 2002 elections. Each district is labeled with unique district identification number. The shapefiles were processed into ARC/INFO coverages and projected from Decimal Degrees to Stateplane NAD83 meters projection.
Supplemental_Information:
system filename : dnccon file size = 0.5 mb

Revisions and updates to this layer include:
2) filename: dnccon02 meta - dnccon02.txt
The February 2002 version updated Congressional districts
from the previous version.
1) filename: dnccon97798 meta - dnccon97798.txt
This was the first release of this data. Originally
dated for release in late 1997, this data was not
officially ready for release until July 1998.
NOTE: There is an archived file of the 1992 NC congressional districts which was released and archived as a separate layer filename: dnccon92, release August, 1997.

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Congressional districts shapefiles were acquired from the General Assembly, Information Systems Division. Block assignments were based on the plan ratified by the General Assembly in 2001 and effective for the 2002 elections. The shapefiles were converted to ARC/INFO coverages and projected to Stateplane NAD83 meters projection, resulting in a statewide districts coverage.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

No positional changes were made by NC CGIA.

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

These data represent the boundaries of 2001 Congressional districts in North Carolina. Each district is labeled with unique district identification number as supplied by the General Assembly, Information Systems Division data.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

Using ESRI's ARC/INFO GIS software, the dataset was built for arc and polygon topology using the "build" command. The data set was then cleaned with a fuzzy tolerance of 1 meter. Topology has not been edited since the last build or clean.

How can someone get a copy of the data set?

Are there legal restrictions on access or use of the data?
