Why was the data set created?

This data was created to assist governmental agencies and others in making resource management decisions through use of a Geographic Information System (GIS).

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

    None (source 1 of 1)
NC Department of Health & Human Services State Center for Health Statistics, 200010601, Hospital Locations: NC Department of Health & Human Services State Center for Health Statistics, Raleigh, North Carolina.

    Other_Citation_Details: Generated at NCCGIA
    Type_of_Source_Media: Paper
    Source_Contribution: Locations of Hospitals

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    Date: 29-Nov-20001 (process 1 of 3)
Point locations were generated using geocoding in Arcview. The resulting file was checked to determine which addresses did not match. These hospitals were then researched on the web (www.yellowpages.net). The yellowpages website search for hospitals in North Carolina yielded a detailed list, with individual maps of each hospital's location. These locations were then added to the hospital coverage interactively, using GDT roads as a backcover.

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Point locations were generated using geocoding in Arcview. The resulting file was checked to determine which addresses did not match. These hospitals were then researched on the web (www.yellowpages.net). The yellowpages website search for hospitals in North Carolina yielded a detailed list, with individual maps of each hospital's location. These locations were then added to the hospital coverage interactively, using GDT roads as a backcover. This digital file is updated as changes occur.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

Hospital Locations were generated using geocoding in Arcview. The point generated in the processing would be snapped to the road identified in the address field. Therefore, point locations are coincident with the GDT roads data.

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

These data represent the locations of Hospitals in North Carolina as listed by the State Center for Health Statistics.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

Using ESRI's ARC/INFO GIS software, the dataset was built for point topology using the "build" command. Topology has not been edited since the last build or clean.

How can someone get a copy of the data set?
