Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title: onemap_prod.SDEADMIN.medfacs
Abstract:
The North Carolina State Center for Health Statistics in cooperation with the Division of Facility Services in the Department of Health and Human Services, developed the GIS data set, Medical Facility Point Locations, to identify locations of health and medical facilities for the entire State of North Carolina. Point locations were geocoded from the facilities database provided by the Division of Facility Services.

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Point attributes were supplied by the Division of Facility Services in the Department of Health and Human Services.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

    Data is complete for 2003.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

5,379 of the 7,159 addresses had match rates of 100%. Match rates lower than 100% were also considered a match because variables such only had minor errors. The address table and the road file did not coincide because of the currentness of the address table. Minor errors detected from either the road file or the address table include incorrect zip codes, incomplete address ranges and inconsistant road name formats. Addresses with no address ranges were geocoded to the closest road intersection. Addresses with discrepancies and/or improper formats were simply corrected and matched. 352 addresses had zero match rates because roads were non-existant in the road file. Several problems attributed to addresses having zero percent match rates include non-existant roads, non-existant road address ranges and improper zip codes. Facilities with rural routes and post office box addresses also had a zero percent match rate.

How can someone get a copy of the data set?

Are there legal restrictions on access or use of the data?
